Thank you Lt. Hayes for your service and selfless sacrifice for the citizens of West Memphis.

During the early morning hours of December 25th, Lieutenant Hayes and officers from Charlie Nights were the first to arrive on scene of a fully engulfed structure fire at the Courtyard Apartments. Rather than give orders, Lt. Hayes led from the front and entered the apartment of a handicapped man who needed assistance. Lt. Hayes pushed his way through the smoked filled structure and carried the large man out on his back. Lt. Hayes and his officers then continued to assist other occupants from the burning building to safety. Lt. Hayes put the lives of others before his own and set a prime example of leadership and service to his officers and the citizens of West Memphis. Luckily, he only received minor smoke inhalation. WMPD is proud to award Lieutenant Darrell Hayes the Life Saving Bar and Ribbon.
