The Williams women's basketball team defeated the Governors State Jaguars 66-55 in their first game of the GSU Winter Classic.
The Lady Eagles out scored the Jaguars 16-10 in the first quarter and 20-17 in the second to take a nine-point lead into halftime. The Jaguars made a run in the second half, specifically the fourth quarter, to cut the lead to four points early in the fourth quarter. Kaylee Clark made a three-pointer with six minutes left to extend the Lady Eagles lead back to nine. Again the Jaguars would cut the Lady Eagles' lead, but Clark drove in the lane and got a contested layup to fall with 1:13 remaining. She converted the free-throw to extend the Lady Eagles' lead back out to nine.
Williams shot 43.1% from the field (22-51), 57.1% from the three-point line (4-7), and 64.3% from the free-throw line (18-28).
Clark led all scorers with 24 points. Nijah Moore was also in double-figures with 12 points.
Italei Gray led the team on the boards with eight.
