CITY OF BLYTHEVILLE: Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (ANRC) approved $270 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds

The West Memphis #Winningstreak continues. On Friday, December 2, 2022, the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (ANRC) approved $270 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds at its December meeting. A total of 882 applications were received for the Water and Wastewater Grants from across the state of Arkansas.

West Memphis Utilities was 1 of only 105 Water Grant applicants to receive funding that will transform how water meters are read in the city. The $2.85 Million grant will help West Memphis Utilities replace over 9,000 analog water meters with more advanced technology smart meters across residences and businesses beginning in 2023.

The city was also 1 of only 52 Wastewater Grant applicants to receive funding to help offset the increased cost associated with the $32.4 million wastewater infrastructure improvement project currently underway. The $5 million grant will help drastically improve service to all city residents. The most significant advantage our residents will notice is they'll be able to flush their toilets during and after heavy rains.

“The future of West Memphis is looking bright," said West Memphis Utilities General Manager Todd Pedersen. “This meter replacement project is just one of many projects the city invests in to provide safe, reliable water and wastewater service for current and future generations.” As costs continue to rise, these monies will allow us to maintain our status as the lowest-cost utility provider in the Mid-South area.
