City of West Memphis issued the following announcement on Mar. 1.
#WomensHistoryMonth March is Women's History Month – commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. Today, we honor West Memphis’s first female mayor Joyce Ferguson, who also had the distinction of being the state of Arkansas’s first female mayor. Mayor Ferguson served two terms as mayor of West Memphis, from 1975 to 1982.
