CITY OF WEST MEMPHIS: Face Masks Required

City of West Memphis issued the following announcement on Aug. 12.

Since COVID-19 first entered our community, Mayor McClendon and the City of West Memphis have been at the forefront in protecting our residents and guests in our city. We have followed the guidance issued by our nation’s leading scientific experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and locally by our own Chief Medical Director.

For the sake of your health, your family’s health, and for the health of the community, the City of West Memphis has issued a mask mandate on all city-owned buildings or city property. We must take every precaution that we can over to help prevent the further spread of this deadly virus.

“After much thought and consideration, I have decided to enact this emergency declaration requiring the use of masks on City-owned property,” said Mayor McClendon. “We have seen the devastating effects COVID has had on our community, and we cannot afford to go through it again”.

These measures are being mandated with the strongest possible recommendation; Mayor McClendon is asking and encouraging masks to be worn in public, in businesses, in churches, and large gatherings for vaccinated and non-vaccinated individuals. The key in preventing statewide surges or pockets of outbreaks of the delta variant is getting vaccinated. The vaccines are free and available at most pharmacies on a walk-up basis with no need for an appointment.
