Memphis metro lag behind Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia in 2019

The Memphis metro area exported $13.8 billion in 2019, less than exports from Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia in 2019, according to the International Trade Administration.

A study from the Brookings Institute found competition between areas within the United States increases exports, which in turn generates stronger sales and more jobs for American workers.

The Memphis metro area consists of eight counties.

The Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia metro area comprises 10 counties exporting $13.9 billion in 2019.

The metro area with the most exports was Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land with $129.7 billion exported.
