Cost of college went up for resident students at Black River Technical College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.5 percent for 2018-19 at Black River Technical College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Arkansas residents paid $3,168 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $48 more than the $3,120 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 72 percent more than residents this year, or $5,448. Their price tag was unchanged from $5,448 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Arkansas residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 84 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 243 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.3 million and 54 students took out student loans totaling more than $226,598.

Including all undergraduates (1,582), 1,058 students used grants or scholarships totaling $5 million, and 317 students took out $1.8 million in federal student loans.
