West Higginbothom, the incumbent for Lee County Quorum Court District 7, is set to face Ocie L. Banks in the runoff election scheduled for April 2.
According to the Arkansas Secretary of State’s Office, Higginbothom, who is running for re-election as a Democrat, received 43% of the vote in the March 5 primary election. His opponents, Patrick V. Walton Sr. and Ocie L. Banks, garnered 25% and 32% of the votes respectively.
Higginbotham holds a position on the Arkansas Soybean Promotion Board. The Board states that he has also served as Chair of the Lee County Community Foundation and as a board member on the Lee County Economic Development Commission. A third-generation farmer and University of Arkansas graduate, Higginbotham has deep roots in agriculture.
In 2017, Higginbotham was elected to a two-year term as President of the Agricultural Council of Arkansas. According to FarmProgress, he operates a 4,500-acre family farm in Marianna. Before returning to manage his family's farm, Higginbotham spent 11 years working under three U.S. Senators and serving on both the Senate Agriculture Committee and Senate Appropriations Committee.
The Association of Arkansas Counties explains that the Lee County Quorum Court consists of nine justices of peace who each represent a district in Lee County. Among their duties are levying taxes and determining compensation for county officers.
